Dread and Strength

DREAD AND STRENGTH
Dread: - Do I really have to go?
Strength: - There’s no way I can say no.
Dread: - I reluctantly, get shoes.
Strength: - I bound down the steps in twos.

Dread: - of the pain that lies ahead.
Strength: - You’ll need more to stop me dead.
Dread: - is the only thing I feel.
Strength: - gets me over that last hill.

Dread: - half-an-hour, now, ago.
Strength: - has been sapped, and now is low.
Dread: - eighty push-ups still to do.
Strength: - attitude will get me through.

Dread: - But still eighty more await.
Strength: - the one-handed ones I hate.
Dread: - then turns to the coming day.
Strength: - when it happens all again.

When you acquire power from dread and strength
When you conquer ‘cause of determination,
And you admit that you’ll go to any length
For your fitness and health, you’ll feel elated.
