Open Spaces In Belfast
There are some things that belong to Belfast ,
Like the painted pathways where soft Lagan flows .
Like the beauty of the Botanical Gardens,
and what goes on at the Balmoral shows .
The flicker of a fire .
The crack of a spark .
Where the soul of Belfast is alive and well .
Summer picnics in Ormeau Park
There is such a need for the open spaces of Belfast .
Where the scent of fresh air is free .
The walk and the wait there at Belfast Lough
for a boat to come in from the rough Irish sea .
It is a welcome nod in the concrete landscape .
It is a smile of the children at play .
It is a walk up a path in Black Mountain
It is the colours of wild flowers in May .
Beyond the ghetto where the long grass in green glens,
hide the blue eyes of the butterflies wing .
You’ll hear the whispers of lovers
And the secrets of dreamers promising everything .
