The Echo
We walked hand-in-hand to the ferry terminal,
where I knew we'd say goodbye for the last time.
You stopped in front of the ticket booth,
and looked me in the eyes.
You told me you loved me,
and I kissed you sweetly and with tears
streaming slowly down my cheeks, I said
I love you too.
I turned and didn't look back,
while my heart clenched up in my chest
and forced whimpering sounds out my mouth
And I cried from the pain!!!
I sobbed from the pain!
You set sail, back home,
And since you left, nothing's felt quite right.
I'll never really understand why you left me
even while the echos of I love you's had barely left your lips,
you left me.

A really sad poem, Melissa.
I can really relate to its meaning. A few years ago, someone I cared about was working with a company that transferred her to another country. And one of the saddess days of my life - I'll never forget - was telling her goodbye at the airport, and watching her board that plane.
We stayed in contact for awhile, but eventually both our lives took other turns.
This poem brings back many sad memories for me, and many happy memories as well. It really touched me. Thank you for sharing it TJ
You're too kind!
Thanks TJ - I'm glad you are able to identify. That was definitely a very hard day, but was for the best in the long run... Thanks so much for your feedback!!
