Castigo
Following poem is my homage to Hector Lavoe.
Why did I never abandon her, sir?
Whereas I knew so damn well that she would never love me back.
Why did I give her my all, sir?
When she seized my heart, tore and discarded it in her revolting pigpen.
Why did I cloy her alcazar with these blossomed rhododendrons on that rainy night, sir?
When my ripped heart pieces were scattered, gobbled up by her rapacious sows
And also I demand you tell me why
--why this Heaven, God, or whoever, you consider is in charge
Is giving me this horrifying, terrifying mortification
And this bile, reeking mordacity I feel, taste, drink each day, my sir?
You say,
It's for this sin, this dupish sin I committed -- this sin of loving her,
This sin of giving her all - when I knew she would never love me back.
Yes, though, I suffer, sir
I won't buy no replica voodoo doll
Of her -- of my wicked pseudo-princess gorgon.
But I beg you, there's something I'd like to see
My only wish -- I'd like to see her lie supine in this grave pit
Black eyed raccoons and skunks visit to eat away at my naked toes
For my sin of loving her,
I'm laying foundered in this grave pit with these fetid, rotten bones of a 6900-year-old.
Oh she's laughing at me now.
Her flagrant eyes glowering at mine from above
Oh she's so tremendous, she's laughing at me now.
I beg you, sir, are you listening?
There's something I'd like to see
I'd like to see her lie supine
In this very grave pit, this impasse, this imperturable darkness
Whilst I stand under the broad sky, looking down from above
My imperious eyes glowering at hers.

La letra de cancion "Castigo" de Hector Lavoe
(Lyrics of the song "castigo" from Hector Lavoe)
- interpreted and translated by Milena
Por que la quize señor - Why did I love her, sir
Si no fui correspondido? - If she didn't love me back?
Por que le di el corazon - Why did I give her my heart
Y me lo devuelve herido? - And had my heart broken?
Quisiera saber por que - I'd like to know why
Me dio el cielo este castigo, - The heaven is punishing me
Todas las hieles probe - All these biles I taste
Culpa de haberla querido, - Guilt of having loved her
Yo no pretendo venganza - I don't want to revenge
Pero la quisiera ver - But I'd like to see her
Con esta cruz que yo cargo - With the same burden I'm carrying now
Por culpa de su querer, - For this sin of loving her
Y cuando por fin la vea - And when, eventually, she
Sufrir lo que sufro yo - Suffers like me.
Yo me reire tanto de ella - I will laugh outloud at her
Como ella de mi se rio - Like she's laughing at me now
Yo me reire tanto de ella - I will laugh outloud at her
Como ella de mi se rio - Like she's laughing at me now

An excellent poem full of wonderful vocabulary and imgery that leaves
the reader with the character's motivation behind his conflict! You
tell of a love unrequited and or unappreciated as the character expresses
his revenge for her unreturned love! Wonderful line breaks and
words that paint a picture of a broken heart!
Thank you very much.
