My moms best friend

"Whats with telephone and women?' i hear my father say
as my mother silently looks away
She waits each day for my sisters to call
call they do once/twice a day
its them keeping in touch
as they live far away

Men like my father don't have much to say,
my sisters and mother..
given a chance will hold ransom time
about mounting bills they don't give a dime.
For hours they talk and talk some more
About food, their children and daily chore

Telephone is not just a silly gadget you see
Its something that brings daily glee
to my old mom who waits all day
to hear what her daughters have to say
Its a connect line you see
that even my father has to just agree
