The bard
An old bard came to our village
dressed in a shabby linen
His cheeks were hollow,
his frame was thin
but light shone from his face so clean
He sat under a canopy of white rose bush
watched a stray dog sit beside him
As he stroked his streaky fur
in a clear lilting voice he sang
"no matter where we come from,
no matter where we go,
each need a someone
who will love us sure.
Those cynical bitter words
shouldn't ever fool
hose nice flirty comments
are just a cover tool
for all need that special someone
to tell us we are loved
and i have found that someone
in the master up above"
The village maids came running from their daily chore,
the young lads too followed thoroughly sore.
They all looked at his glowing face.
His kindly eyes seemed to embrace
the cynic and the village flirt,
the men in pants and those in skirts.
It was as though all were same
all divisions a silly game
The high offices of priest heard his song too,
in their heart a question grew.
What is this man singing ?Why is he here?
Is he the man from Hamelin?they began to sneer.
The bard seemed to understand their fear.
Smiling he got up,this old seer,
walked up the mountain and across the bridge
and into the clouds he disappeared.

am glad you posted it Mimi I loved it hugs from Willow
I like the stanza...
in which you describe the townspeople being all looked at as being equal. To me that signified in God's eyes. The old man above looks down on us all with love. And there is a suggestion of the persecution of Christ. A very interesting poem, mimi, very good. I like it.
