lets go back
Do you remember when we first met?
Yes darling I know it’s been years
But surely you remember
No, it was at the bus stop, remember
It was raining and you asked to share my umbrella
Yes, that’s the day
What? Why do I ask?
Things are different now between us
We pass each other along the corridors
Like ships passing each other in the night
No darling, im not picking a fight
I just want us to go back
Remember how we felt about each other
Do you remember how we waited for the bus?
As if fate was at play, the bus delayed
And we carried on like old friends
I told you I was a singer
You told me you were a writer
Yes darling you remember?
I see why you’re laughing
It was really funny
We were both so passionate about our work
And we went on and on at the bus stop
Yes, the bus came and we hesitated
Now you remember clearly.
I felt if we got on the bus our time was limited
I felt if I let you go I would be
Losing something so special
Something drew us to each other that day
Yes, I remember we sat next to each other in the bus
And you asked for my number
I gave it to you gladly
We talked so much in the bus, almost like we were racing against time
You almost missed your stop, remember darling?
Yes, it was funny how you rushed out of the bus without a proper goodbye
On my way to my stop, I smiled to myself and prayed you’d call me soon
And you did, the very next day and my heart raced
We met again a week later for coffee
In what was to become our favorite coffee shop
I will never forget that first date.
We talked and talked for hours
Before we knew it night had fallen and it was getting late
I did not want to leave you
What? You felt the same way? How wonderful
I guess we never really expressed how we felt clearly back then
Too young and proud I guess
I knew I had found something special in you
Because when we sat down together time came to a stand still
We would get so lost in our conversations about everything and nothing
And I knew that anyone who could capture my mind so much
Anyone who would make me forget the world around me
Was someone I wanted around me for a long time?
I dared not say it though, and you didn’t either darling
But somehow we were carefully cautious and we waited
We both had seen the unpretty side of love and life
We both wanted to be sure
Wasn’t it worth the wait?
I love you as much now as I did then
I know things have changed dear
You feel it too, though you won’t talk about it
But you do remember how it felt back then
And wouldn’t it be great if we found that writer and that singer
Brought them back to life with all their youthful desires
And awaken them again in ourselves
Wouldn’t it be great if we felt what we felt that first day we met
The eagerness to see each other gain
The burning desire to be around each other
The long intellectual, silly, naughty conversations
The meaningless flirting and passionate gazes
The subtle touches that ignited so much fire
The many nights we didn’t want to sleep, so that we could have more time to talk
Because we knew morning would come and with it the busyness of life?
I miss those days darling, and I know you do too
It’s been years, but we are the same people
The same hearts beat within
Time may have crowded and cluttered our lives with stuff
But we can still remember and that’s all that counts
Lets go back!

Beautiful !
This should have a million comments because we all remember and we all lose a little of the magic along the way. I remember meeting my love, and we recount it often and, in a way, I meet her NEW every day. Sometimes GOOD new and sometimes BAD new, but that's love, right ? The precious innocence and wide open hearts that love gives us when it's new are hard to maintain in this hard world, but the minutes we can recapture it, are renewing and invigorating. And this wonderful poem does just that. Thanks !
