THE DINERS' CLUB

They came into the laboratory
This"scientific" throng
'Mid Petries and test tubes
Some short and some were long

They babbled to each other
Their egos well they fed
Of RNA,and DNA
To make the living from the dead

From dawn to dusk they labored
This idiotic lot
With proteins and acids
And enzymes in the pot

We just stood by,(,my friends and I),
Some were old friends(some were new)
They mixed and checked
The agars red
But nothing in them grew
And suddenly(unknown to them)
Within this cast-off stew
The stuff we need-to come to life
In this discarded brew

Discarded waste,(this stuff of theirs)
Is just the coat we need
To move among the human race
And on their carcass feed

We crowded in the Dappen dish
We all were coated well
Some of every number
Await the dinner bell

Prepared to move among them
And represented in this swell
Was every strain and species
As far as I could tell

Bubonic plague and T.B.
And other boys of old
Along with new groups,(boasting),
Were welcomed in the fold

SARS,AIDS,and young Ebola
Said they would do their part
To enter through these dim-wits
The Human Super-Mart
