They Know

At night as I peer through the window
By the trees which never do sleep
While holding aloft their dark members
A silent vigil they keep

We share something more than the darkness
The silence here deep in the wood
A wisdom brought down through the ages
The Druid so well understood

I wait here fast by the lakeside
Near the blackened waters I know
Lonely,strangely forbidding
Where the moonbeam refuses its' glow

Yes the night with its' fragrant caresses
And my senses keenly aware
Of the Owl and the Crow and the Sparrow
Of the Deer and the Rabbit and Bear

They know they are safe in their slumber
They know I will pass them all by
For tonight I have chosen another
Another is chosen to die

They'll scream as I go through the window
Excited during my feast
And soon when the killing is over
When all of the chatter has ceased

The night once more will be silent
When daylight again they will share
The Owl,the Crow and the Sparrow
The Deer the Rabbit and Bear
