December night

From the corner of my bed
You jumped inside the neon light
Leaving poems in my head
Dying in December night.

Took the moon and stole the stars
From the cold abandoned sky
And left the smell of your cigars
To float among the passers-by.

A step aside and you are still
A step again and you are lost,
Passing from the window-sill
Right inside the killing frost.

You seeped away without a clue
And took the memories perchance.
The hungry past has stolen you
And present hasn’t got a chance.

Your steps are covered by the snow
That came to shelter your escape.
But you allowed my love to grow
As daffodils on winter’s crepe.

Thank you for your kind words. They really encourage my future writing.

It doesn't matter how slow you go, as long as you don't stop
