Once I Sang A Song Of Love

Her dark skin warm and mellow
As she took to bed with this fellow
Beautiful as Cleopatra she was
That was a love that once 'twas

The gentle strokes we embraced
With love and laugher life was laced
White fresh mornings, cool and brisk
My serious heart was at great risk

For I was in love with this beauty
Who never ever knew me
Spent oodles of money and love
To make us happy as heaven 'bove

Grew up with all the pain of boys
Whose mother tried to steal the joys
Criticism, rejection, not tall and dark
No one will ever love your heart

Don't know why she was so cruel
Mother knows not a golden rule
It seems that she said the truth
As I fell in love, in my youth

I truly loved a raving beauty
Who never really knew me
Obsessed with my mother's life
Didn't care to be my sweet wife

It's as if a shadow hung over me
Trying to keep me from being happy
Once I sang a song of love
Now I am a lonely dove

Will be so hard to fly again
Seems I've been left in the rain
But I left her, cause all we shared
Mother didn't like her, I never cared

She wants to date again, it's too late
Cause I can't take obsessions on a plate
Of I don't think your mother likes me
You see, you're not in love with me

Obsessed with that women who hurts
Has ruined my life, or just so flirts
Who cares what an old women thinks
The love from my heart you must drink

To hurt me with, "what my mother thinks",
So sloppy cruel and it really stinks!
You ain't gonna marry my mother
It's as if you are her lover

Once I sang a song of love
Now just a flightless dove...
The love and light I thought I had
Turned out to be painful and sad...

It would be so nice for you to care
What I think, the only thing that's fair!

loved this one

great poem oldaspiationsneverdie
I love the way you write as you speak rather than all the words you would never use normally I like to try and do that also, and leave the big words to the old masters they way they used to speak in their day,a very understandable poem I enjoyed the read from Willow
