The Deluge

Torrential rains, days and nights on end
Flooding the banks, a pathos did blend
A deluge killed a thousand balmy dreams
As men together fought for life in teams

No where to run for cover
As they soon do discover
Dead bodies along the ships and shores
Rubber rafts float along as the deluge pours

Storms so violent and so quick
The deluge cometh, Satan's trick
Flooding memories of violent rains
As the ice cracks, cries and pains

Buried amidst the ships and yaughts
Flowered reefs mark old funeral plots
Ghosts and mourners in black as they seek
What comfort to know nature burries the meek?

The water line to roof tops, survivors float
Cats and dogs howling, the windy song's note
Death warrants, the alarm of nature's war
The thick crackling ice, as sinking boats roar

Beneath the flood, as the deluge pours
Windy spirits blow, and open death's doors
Floating, hard, breaking thick ice
The violence of nature's dice!
