The Phantom Eyes
Eyes so desolate,
Peer from a face.
White with color,
Without splendor,
They stare you in the face.
Blazing fire
Begins to rumble
From the depths
Of the heart.
From these eyes,
You see the anger,
The pain, and the hurt.
The face is twisting,
Writhing with pain.
The mouth is screaming
Desperately searching,
For a safe place.
None can be found,
And so the eyes cry.
Hoping and praying,
Crying and screaming.
Wanting a release,
And in the moment,
The raging river,
Crying eyes fill without splendor
Once again become desolate,
Wanting a refuge,
A place to be free.
So the eyes drift and withdraw
Until at last
You can't see the person
Hiding behind the Phantom eyes
That have become, The Mask.
