Just a Blue-Eyed Guy

Maybe I’m being simplistic
But, I’m no one special at all,
Just a basic blue-eyed guy
With the plain name of Paul.

I have no wealth, no riches,
No millions in the bank,
No yacht in the south of France,
No title of high rank.

Fame has not become my friend,
No celebrity am I,
No teeming millions praise me
And raise me so very high.

I do not hobnob with the famous,
On Broadway I have no star,
There is no named restaurant,
Or swanky, glitzy bar.

No wax replica of me
Stands proud at Madame Tussaud’s;
And there’s no private box
To watch cricket at Lord’s.

All this doesn’t upset me
I don’t wish I was a V.I.P,
I’m just happy and content
To be plain and simple me.

Boy, ain't that the truth

Paul,

Your words pretty much capture my existance and I feel no desire for fame and aplomb either. This was quite well written and rather self effacing.

Pete

amazing

comment! Wonderful commendation. I also enjoy reading your works. Your "Butterfly" poem is on my "favourites" list. Thanks again.

Paul

Alexander Pope would have been proud!

This ia a great poem, a modern parallel to the Pope's "The Quiet Life" set in a city scene.

Great work!

wow!

This is a fantastic comment comparing me to Pope, as he and Shelley are my two favourites! Seems reading their works is rubbing off onto me?! Thanks mate.
