Lost to the Abyss...

Did you ever have a deep thought
But was unable to capture it?
Did it evaporate into nothingness
Into the endlessly infinite?
Did the spark of inspiration
Suddenly get smothered and die?
Did you groan in anger
And give an almighty sigh?
Ah, my poet friend
You’ve had that feeling too,
Where a profound thought is lost
And there’s nothing you can do
But be prepared for the next time
When pregnant thoughts give birth -
Have a pen and paper ready
Then all can read of their true worth!

Yes poetmaster....

I've had that feeling and you described it so well......I love this bit....
But be prepared for the next time
When pregnant thoughts give birth -
Have a pen and paper ready
Then all can read of their true worth!......aaahhh.....so original!...'pregnant thoughts give birth', I'm loving it....peace

several ways

I can think about pregnant thoughts, being a woman and all. There is the giving of life or bringing life forth, letting it grow. Then I could go into the whole birth thing which is not a lot of fun as I remember, great end product but.... I liked reading this and am making a silly little comment but I understand what you are saying here. Inspiration those wonderful bubbles of brilliance that occur within the mind really are magic. Thanks for writing about it. raskin

Bubbles of brilliance! Great...where's my pen...

some have light bulbs

for me it is iridescent bubbles. raskin

Yes, Poetmaster, it's happened to me too!

I usually wait for certain times (late at night, or at certain places) to try and capture profound poetic thoughts. All the mental gems we've missed. Tis a shame. But after reading your poem now, I think I'll make sure to take a pen and paper with me. Very good advice. It's worth a try!

thoughts

are so fleeting. You're right, best to find a place with no distractions. Thanks for reading. :-)
