~ Night Time Fears ~
Transylvanian terrors
Swarm inside my head,
Silent, shadowy spectres
Fill me with much dread;
What was it that touched
My shoulder just now?
Or did my imagination
Make a tap at the window?
Ghoulish forms seemed to melt
Into the misty black night,
And an uneasy foreboding
Accompanied my cold fright.
I pulled the sheets up closer
Right up over my head;
Perhaps these dark shadows
Would soon leave my bed.
But then, a door creaked open
Ever so slightly ajar.
What on earth could it be?
Was it really near, or afar?
Suddenly, something landed
With a thud onto the quilt,
I froze in sheer horror,
And my heart began to wilt.
Tense, and terribly nervous
I drew back the cotton sheet
And was pleasantly surprised
With what had four furry feet –
A grey and white Tom-Cat!
Phew! It was nothing to fear,
He gave a contented meow
And lovingly licked my ear!
