A Piece of my Heart
A piece of my heart died today
As I saw a yellow leaf fall from a tree
Reminding me of that day so grey
When Death took my friend from me.
A piece of my heart has a hole
Where once your friendship was there
Now it’s gone leaving this crushed soul
With a terrible rip, a cruel tear.
A piece of my heart cannot grow,
White numbness replaces the red;
“Time heals” they say, but it’s so slow,
Mental wounds befuddle my head.
A piece of my heart bears each Name
Of ones still fondly missed;
Rich memories continue to remain,
Cherished photos are often kissed…

When my mother in law died, i actually felt like there was a piece of my heart that was missing. and it really hurt...and when i think about it , like now...it still aches. Great Poem, i love it!

Simply wow
Such a touching poem. You really do miss them, and you are reminded by something as simple as a leaf. You touch every aspect of an absent heart, and you word it so greatly that it shows how much hurt you are still holding. Time heals everything, I promise. Whether it ticks as slow as a clock or is on fast forward, it is healed, I swear <3.

Moving
piece poetmaster sad and wise my friend, the last line is very true to heart...
It's an all too common
feeling of sadness that revisits us when remembering lost loved ones.
Just goes to show how we need to cherish loved ones while they are still around.
Appreciate your comment.
