Why do men go fishing?
It seems so boring to me.
What on earth do they gain
From sitting ‘neath a tree?
Hour upon hour they spend
Beside the wide riverside
Waiting, and waiting, for a fish,
Yet, all they do is hide!

Why do men go fishing?
Relaxing for ages under the sun
Getting a golden tan,
Could it be described as fun?
Listening to the twittering birds
Conversing with each other
In hedgerows and trees
Safely under cover.

Why do men go fishing?
To enjoy peace and tranquillity;
To get away from it all
And relish the life of the free;
To feel the calming breeze
On a warm summer’s day;
“To get some fish is a bonus,
A reward for hard work” they say!
