Cats come in all different sizes, colors,
big and small, long, short and no hair.
It is said they always land on their feet,
softly, unharmed, able to take off running.
All good attributes for survival.
I've seen them walking along, ears alert,
an intellect that shines from their eyes
as they surmise me.
Graceful, quiet until they let me know
they are there to play, to be loved.
Warming themselves on a sunny windowsill,
curled, eyes all drowsy.
They are so proud walking up
with a mouse as a prize and drop it at my feet.
They are solitary creatures, content with
their own company and occasionally another.
All are predators, proud of the chase, capture and kill.
Snakes are also predators, silent as well
but the funniest thing I ever saw,
was a cat playing with a snake
before killing it.
