Elderberry flowers
A large wooden table sat centered under the chandelier,
glowing as the sunlight streamed into the room.
A large crystal vase holding the flowers of the Elderberry
rested on an elaborate white lace doily,
the table protected.
Decanters filled with libations idled near the
wine glasses of various sizes and colors as they
looked on from the china cabinet, radiant, waiting.
Soon the moon would rise,
casting a new light, then
the shuffling would begin from the cellar.
He would ascend the stairs,
bright and cheery another channel dug,
they would fill it in later.
After a toast to good health,
another laugh,
another screwball.

This is well written with vivid descriptions, holds the interest of the
reader and you want to be there, to enjoy a toast
and libation with the people in the room!
I like old movies
This is an ode to Arsenic and Old Lace, a movie I always enjoyed. raskin
Elderberry
I was amazed to read your comment about the movie, as that was the first thing that came to mind when reading your poem. I almost invisioned the old ladies bustling about...great job of creating a setting that sparks memories. Honestly, this one is a real keeper.
I'm glad you enjoyed
and remembered the movie it is old but has great characters. Thanks for reading and commenting. raskin
Loved this poem
Thanks for sending this poem in Raskin I do love elderflowers makes a delicious wine I prefer it to the berries in wine, it is so light and fragrant we used to boil the flowers with orange juice then strain it and it made a delicious refreshing drink your lovely poem brought many memories back in a delightful way, from Willow
wine
I'm glad you enjoyed. I have some very old recipes for northern wines, they are from my great aunts. Delightful ladies, beautiful rose garden, very proper but they loved homemade wine. raskin
