The day was sunny, warm, luscious.
Lilacs, peonies scented the air,
birds were busy picking up bits of straw, twigs
to make nests for their young.
I watched all the activity with a certain
drowsy laziness that comes with
a warm sunny day.
Lying in the grass I looked
heavenward to the cloudless sky.
The moon sat beside the sun
edging ever closer, slowly
caressing the border.
Afternoon progressed to sunset
then finally to night as
moon and sun converged
all was quiet, birds stopped.
For moments in the dark I
witnessed the joining of the
sun and moon
once again acquainted
in a celestial embrace.
Too soon they parted
bringing sunrise,
each going to their separate
plane in the sky
until they embrace again.
