I will
My childhood home
the window I looked out
so many times at the lake
to see the stars,
the sunrise.
I opened the window
lying down for the night
one last look at the stars.
I listened to the waves
as they hit the shore,
breaking
they call it.
The waves break
like hearts
as they slam into the sand.
I listen for a while
until sleep overtakes me.
Wind is blowing in my window
the morning light wakes me,
it's the same
as always.
Getting dressed I decide
to walk the beach,
I listen to the rhythm of the waves.
As I walk towards the roar
the wind blows hard,
I push forward into it,
grains of sand pelt my face,
embed in my hair.
I taste the grit in my mouth
moving it around
finally swallowing it.
The water is roiling,
bubbling, churning,
giving birth to more waves.
Standing I feel the vibration
of emotions from the lake,
the wind tries to overtake me
I hold my ground,
shutting my eyes to feel its force
and my will.
