My Mothers Day
Mothers day,
she lie in the bed, if she could
move the head of the bed, she would.
She didn't. The room was dark,
only the glow of the monitor up
above her, like a halo.
The machine did a whoosh
then a click, again and again.
I watched her chest rise, then fall
with each whoosh then click.
This was the music I heard
as I watched her, warm hands
lie flat in one position.
I would touch them, her fingers,
the polish was removed
replaced by a clothespin with red light,
I thought of E.T. the extraterrestrial.
I sat in my chair thinking
if I pressed enough buttons
maybe this room would take off.
I could take my Mom for a ride on this
Mother's day.

oh raskin,
That was sad but beautiful. And just the fact that you are there with her im sure she feels your love. your mom must have done something very right to raise a son like you.
i love the line about pressing enough buttons and taking her for a ride. very sweet.
Linda
thank you
My mother was a lovely, interesting woman. This happened many years ago now but with Mother's day coming up it brought it back. raskin
good poem raskin
Raskin I do know how you feel seeing your mother so ill on mothers day, I myself lost my mother the day before Mothers day and although it was 25 years ago it still hurts to this day,
Mothers are very special in our hearts, and will never be forgotten ,
Mothers day holds a sadness that I have to hide as I too am a mother , and grandmother ,so behind my smile there is still a hidden pain that will never be forgotten. from Willow
There
are moments when those memories come back so real and alive it was really nice to write about it. I have a few more down this road. raskin
