The Sanctum

Standing in front of the forest, I looked up
trees crowded everywhere except, the path.
Behind me stood the fields, buildings, homes,
past life, the ways of old.
Ahead of me the grass was stamped down lightly
by those that came before me.
The grass was soft, smooth like silk threads,
I had felt this before many years ago.
It wasn't like that artificial turf that grows,
this I could lie in and sleep.
Looking into the forest along the path
the light filtered in through the leaves,
casting shadows and light along my way.
It was hard to tell the age of the forest,
they said it was old growth but for me
it was a grove of renewal.
I could see it all around me in the
growth of the saplings, I could
feel the spirits here.
Some who find this path fear it
but for me I felt the embrace,
accepting what is to come.
I'm led here without knowing,
feeling the sanctum.
