Pleasure vs. Pain

I remember the girl who
Could only sleep on her side
The girl who, passions spent,
I'd find more just in time
I remember the girl who
Like a shadow on white walls
Never went away
So when I blink, I still see her
Distant and alone
And on those nights I'll awake, persistently
Screaming her name
And she'll wake up beside me
As pleasure duels with pain.

Oh, my goodness

This poem was wonderfully written, and surprising. I do not mean to sound un-intelligent, but could you explain something to me, whether it be in another comment or a private message? I would just like to know whether or not the girl in this poem is alive or dead, there or gone? I got the impression in the beginning that the girl was lost in some way, since she was still there after he blinked, meaning that she was no longer there. But then you say that after the person screams, she wakes up beside them...In a way, this sounds scary...Would you mind explaining? I understand that this is meant to give the reader something to think about and dissect, but it is not often that you get the opportunity to question the author personally for the real meaning. Would you enlighten me (and not with Comcast...lol =] )???

Questions are the aid to understand, and understanding is the aid to life.

Thank-you, I appreciate the comment. :)

Well, this poem can be taken in a number of ways, but what I was trying to portray is that this person is in a relationship with this girl but it has gotten to the point where the girl has changed so much that she has become unrecognizable. The "remembering" section of the poem is supposed to be in a sort of dream-like state, the person dreaming of the girl they once knew. Pleasure dueling with pain at the end represents the fact that the person is still holding onto this memory of what this girl used to be like, and refuses to let go in hopes that she will go back to the person she once was.

I hope this didn't confuse you more...I guess you can take the poem any way you want to, and relate your experiences to it as well, which is the great thing about reading poetry.

Take care and thank-you for the feedback :)

Not at all =]

Not at all! I understood that completely. I'm sorry to have had to ask, but I really wanted to know. It just shows that it wrote this poem in such an eloquent style that it could be seen in numerous ways =]. That is very meaningful, however, the way you originally planned it. Thank you for the write. I enjoyed it emmensely =].

Every individual has something to offer--why hold back?
