While You Lay Sleeping

While you lay sleeping
I fought a dragon off
I covered your feet, so not to get cold
And I brushed back a lock of hair that had fallen on your face

While you lay sleeping
I closed the window to keep out the chilled wind
I dimmed the light so not to wake you
And mumbled a chant to chase away bad dreams

While you lay sleeping
I watched as darkness fell
And I stood over you till right had returned
I listened for footsteps in the rain

While you lay sleeping
Your cheeks shown a warm reddish glow
Moonlight stolen from some night sky sparkled on your hair
And your breathing was soft and low

And while you lay sleeping
I fell in love with you
