Falling into Light

Hollow-eyed, the dumb downed whore
explains herself into the street.
Fake pearls a string of curses.
Mini-skirt brick wall tight.
She pretends to be on heat.

Broken backs ignore the urgency

Deep Water

A goanna, dark as dirt, big as a crocodile,
turns and scuttles
into the undergrowth.

A stingray
stealth bomber glides through the mudflats.
Symmetrical, almost friendly.

Year's End

Cockatoos flower dot the camphor laurel.
I whistle to them, get some response.
Elton John on TV supplies a jazzy background.
His piano keys in tune with plumes furled,
then unleashed

Peak Hour Lament

Before the wounded gates of time,
the surging crowd looks like a fight.
Lips like glue...hearts frozen.
Jacob's ladder's long been broken.
Eagle eyed, they're locked in flight.

Card Not Sent

"You're breaking up a family",
the ex-madame sadly smiled.
The serpent tried but couldn't,
the synagogue was tiled.

You walked away brave faced.
Tears fell like cannon balls.
