Standing Bare in Winter

they are majestic giants
each and everyone
striped of all their glory
when the seasons done

though not a dog
it is their bark
that keeps all pests away

from hurting them
and damaging
their growth in everyway

if not for them
we’d have no homes
or means to write words in

yet we carve them, burn them
and cut them down
our actions are a sin

they reach up to the heavens
purifying air we need
just a little stewardship
is a much-needed deed

so when winter comes
look all about
they don’t mind if you stare

cause in time
within the months
they won’t be standing bare
