Surprise

surprise

the difference from a gasp or cheer
is in the delivery
one is from what we fear
the other what we want to see

surprises come in all shapes an size
some candy to our eyes

there are those we do not want
for those we sympathize

surprise that’s most encountered
by each and everyone
is who we find around us
not all are having fun

i ask why we can’t find amusement
during our days affairs
a good surprise can be hidden
in the simplest of wares

how about that phone call
from a daughter or a son
they earned a grade or made the team
or hitting that home run

and then there are surprises
thinking your day has hit new lows
like when Rufus leaves a present
with bare feet it's between your toes

the biggest surprise
is that i am alive
and happy to be free

of troubles that once
did hang around
no longer have hold on me

Excellent ending, Ron.

It conveys growth, and isn't that what it's all about? With growth comes change, and sometimes change is a good thing. I like where you went with this. Nice work!
