Those were the days

49 years ago I lay
in a metal bed,
bundled up in a cotton cocoon.

Eyes were puffy,
nose was sore.
Had some plastic turkey baster up it,
felt like someone was sucking my brains out.

Life was simple,
all I did was eat n shit.
Didn’t have to do anything about either,
all was taken care of.

I do remember having a headache.
Memories of squeezing thru a dark hole.
Lights were way to bright.

Never did get to talk
to the head nurse about my accommodations.
Way to noisy,
my neighbors didn’t know when to stop crying.

Then it was the never ending
tapping and knocking on the plate glass window.
Didn’t they understand I was trying to get some sleep!!!

Ah those were the days …

I got a birthday card of a guy standing behind a outside wooden door to a shower. All you see are the bottom of his feet, water running and the top of his head with a birthday hat on it. the caption reads,
"What a birthday, but how did I get cake on that"

Happy Birthday Handsome!
