I Think

I think
When people drink

Everything changes...

This world
They hate

They isolate;

And everyone’s
A stranger.

They see their lives
Through
Different eyes

Interpret
Other’s words
As lies.

Yet somewhere deep
Beneath disguise

A truth lies sealed

A light, concealed.

A future path
Is yet

To be... revealed.

another good one Debs

This poem is a pretty good description of an alcoholic well written Debs I should think anyway they do isolate themselves ,especially on a drinking binge, to hide what they are doing thank`s for sharing this with us , from Willow.

Debs,

I am sure this is from first hand experience. your well chosen words tell the truth. Many do not see the light and basically live in the shadows or a place I like the call
"the gray zone".

Fantastic

That is a fantastic poem, one of your best in my opinion, although I can't think of any I havn't liked.

WOW!

I'm pretty blown away by the responses i recieved on this piece, and very flattered too.

Its great that you were all able to take something from this write, as I tryed to convey 'Alcoholism' as an 'isolating' experience. I suppose- the 'Alcoholic' living in a world far removed from the realites that sober people experience. This is also a topic very close to my heart- having lived with an alcoholic in the past, and also having lost 2 close freinds to Alcoholism. One, being in part, if not fully responsible for leading her to suicide. It is also an ongoing concern in society, and apears to be increasing all the time here. Im sure it wont be long untill its totally out of control, here in England anyway.
Thankyou all, so much for your kind words, and for taking the time to read and comment this.

Words so true...

Very true Deb sobriety is so much more manageable than my past drinking days.

Hugs

Thankyou

very much Vic, for commenting on this thread.
I know its such a personal thing for so many to share. I do hope that public awareness becomes greater and greater on this subject and that firmer licensing laws are put in place, aswell as services getting adaquate funding to help not only the suffering/recovering alcoholic, but the freinds and families affected by it.
