Grudge
I know you think I didn’t see it
But I saw it in your eyes,
I saw that little shadow
That clothes itself in lies;
I know the words left your mouth
The words, ‘I forgive you’,
But I heard the whisper behind those words
That grabbed back that forgiveness too.
I can’t take back what happened
You know I taste regret so clear,
You spoke sweet nothings of mercy
And I wiped away those tears;
You smiled and consoled
And said it was okay,
Though we both knew
Those were lies that blanket dismay.
You do not forgive,
We both know;
Perhaps I would not either,
So we lay here in false show;
We clasp hands, wicked grimace beneath
The painted forgiveness in your touch;
And we walk together, our hearts writhing to be apart,
Hiding behind our façade- a silent grudge.
