Sleepless & Superstitious
So I'll avoid sleeping in a cold room on a warm bed
and feel the sweat prickle my neck
rub my feet against each other and hear the salty squeek
say up all night because you can't sleep
and hope real hard to watch the sun rise
and just as the sun lady's rays peek our from under the horizon's bangs,
like you did, gave me a look,
it's covered in clouds, and surrounded
like my lips crashed into yours
i'm sorry about that. i understand your look, now
sorry that had to happen. sorry to let peer pressure get the better of us
you're a nice kid, you know
a certain naive charm, you've got
unlike the dashing mister who's also on my mind
so let's see if i can go the twentyfour
and sleep not a wink, not a wink
be ready for seeing you all again at a party until the wee hours of the morning
let's hope we can be friends without the pressure
because you're loved, and you love
and i'm neither of them to you
and i love, and i'll never be loved
and i wonder what you are to me
it's unfortunate the sun didn't rise, and quite possibly prophetic. and as the nice jewish boy from quebec montreal your hometown sings about who's calling, you can read his poems about a sort of monkhood and wonder what order you belong to, and wonder if the red clouds mean trouble brewing
it's doubtful, but you've always been superstitious
