Out of the Dark

I remember Mother that day
When her tears woke us so quietly
From our dreams
She told us that Father’s sleeping
And he is watching from far away…

I held my big brother close
When they came for Father’s body
In my room
They told us that Father’s leaving
And we won’t see him anymore…

I heard Mother crying all night
When she stared at the bottom of bottles
From her chair
They told us that Mother’s grieving
And she won’t be right for a while…

I saw the glass break, closed my eyes
When she screamed for my Father
All night
They told us that Mother’s leaving
And we won’t see her anymore…

I remember Brother the next day
When he told me goodbye so quietly
In his arms
He told me that he loved me
And he will see me very soon

I saw him leave me all alone
When the strangers took me away
From my home
They told me I’d get a new family
And they’d love me as their own

Now I look out into the night sky
When the stars blink so bright
Out of the dark
They tell me that I am leaving
And no one will see me anymore…

It was a quick write.

Very well said. It hits me deeply. I would call this one "Alone" or "They Said"
