A Nameless Enemy
A sound shatters through the otherwise silent night
Startling you from the deepest of sleeps
The fear is immediate
Your heart races as your blood cools
You know it has returned
Even as you pray you are wrong
You don’t know what is happening
Why you deserve such hell
Doors slam, dishes clatter
Foot steps sound through the house
A nameless enemy
Did you somehow conjure it
Is it praying on your emotions
What is this that haunts your mind
Feasts on your soul
Gorges your being until your nothing more
Nothing but heightened nerve endings
When will it stop
How will it end
Sleepless nights and tense days
Goodbye quiet
Goodbye peace
Hello fear
Hello hell
You implore it to end
But know its only begun
A nameless enemy
