Heroes

A man, a woman, a child; which one would you call a hero?
A man is known for his strenght and courage.
A woman is known for love.
A child is known for innocence, the kind that comes from above.

Many sizes and colors we see everyday; black, white, red, brown.
Today, we now see shades of grey.

As our sorrow starts to grow, who do we turn to when we need "Heroes"?
Ashes fall, fires burn;
Where do we look to? Where do we turn?

To the sea for a wave a thousand feet high to wash away the rubble?
Who can give us answers, when life gives us trouble?

Do we look to the land for cars, trucks and people running by? Maybe the answers will come staring up into the sky!

Whatever the word "hero" means; however you choose to define it, today of all days (09/11) is the one where dictionaries have no meaning! Heroes are all around us with their halos dimly beaming.

Look around you now at a friend or a neighbor. You may just find the "hero" you need in the heart of a complete stranger. They won't have super powers like super flying or X-ray vision but everyone has a heart and a soul and we all have ears to listen.

Listen to your inner self and let all the anger and hatred go! Don't waste your life thinking of all the lives we'll never have a chance to know!

We ALL can be "heroes", heart, body and soul; Red, white and blue; OUR colors flying high and proud from a pole.

We are Americans and we all bleed red. Through the mountains and the praries and even the seas of foam; America the united! Our "hero" we call home!

I wrote this on September 11th, 2001 after getting to work. God bless the families, friends and survivors of that horrific day!

I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope it gives you the idea of who you could be a "hero" to. :)
