Mother's Intuition

The preacher
Smiled and said,
With a nod of his head,
"I now pronounce you husband and wife;
May you be happy for
The rest of your life.'

But there was something behind his smile
That left me cold inside.
Let's call it a mother's intuition,
Things I knew without being told.

Such a beautiful day,
With family and friends
Gathered around
To enjoy the happiness
My daughter had found
With the man she was marrying
And the vows they were sharing
On sacred ground.

Spring flowers bloomed all around,
As the bride and groom hugged and kissed,
And I was happy for them,
But I was pissed when the preacher said this -

"This is your marriage license,
And your papers are complete.
You own her now,
And she's yours to keep."

Oh, God, what a creep!

As for her husband,
He's been rubbing
Me the wrong way.

Treating my daughter
Like shit
And acting crazy.

A mother's intuition
Is never wrong.
I saw it coming
All along.

But hid my feelings under the rug,
Despite my love
For my daughter's feelings.

Hi tj great poem I am sorry about the son in law though what a shame for your daughter and yes a mother`s instincts are usually right,
I think as we go through life we see these things more and of course it is your daughter, and mother`s look out for them and want what`s best for them which is perfectly natural,
and it must be painful to watch your daughter being treated so ,and feeling like you do with your hands tied must be very frustrating, I feel for you tj ,you are a very naturally caring mother. fromWillow.

Hi, WIllow

You're a sweetheart! This poem was written about a very close friend of mine, and the experiences she had with her daughter, and what happened after her daughter's wedding.
She knew before hand how things were going to turn out, and expressed those thoughts to me. A mother's instincts are never wrong, but happily the daughter and her husband are trying to work things out. So let's keep our fingers crossed.

Hi tj
thanks for the reply I wasnt sure if it was you that wrote it because I had to stop and think are you are male or female, as you wrote some poems about women that you loved ,so if you are male please forgive me for calling you a mother and vice versa if you are female lol sorry tj it got me thinking , from willow, hey that could make a poem lol, a challenge for you tj. from willow

That's ok, Willow

To set things straight, I'm a man. But as a writer I can easily put myself in someone elses shoes, be it male or female, from whatever walk of life. I have an incredable imagination, and a sliver of ESP besides, both of which have served me well in life.
I want to thank you for your comments. And I also want to take a moment to say how much I've enjoyed your poetry. I read your work everyday.
I'm terrible at commenting - I never know what to say
with regard to someone's work - but I'll say here and now, I think your poetry is wonderful.
Keep those poems flowing, my dear. I've enjoyed everyone of them. TJ

Thankyou tj

I thank you once more tj for your kind words.am glad you like my poems ,I m like you wondering what to write about next but we must keep going or we will stop all together ,so am just writing about anything at the moment and maybe one day something good will come along,it is good to get comments such as you have given me as it does encourage me to write some more,
I think you have a wonderful imagination to think as a man and also what a woman may think of that is wonderful to be able to adapt yourself in both minds ,you are so talented to be able to think like that well done tj,
keep them coming from willow

Good to hear back from you, Willow

At the moment, I'm digging up some old material
that might inspire some new creativity. What have you got on the horizon? Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be great.

nice to hear from you too tj

I havent a clue what I am going to write next.I will just sit with my pen and see what comes up lol dont think it will be too great though, maybe nothing tonight but am getting desperate .
from Willow

Don't let the pressure get you, dear.

Remember, this all for fun. We're all having a great time expressing ourselves with our poetry. This is an 'outlet' and nothing more.
