Times have changed but my hearts a bit behind
Holding onto things that have already let go
Regretting things left unsaid
...what I should have done instead
I should have told you that cool summer day
But I never knew that this infatuation would take a while to wear away
Your smile, personality, stupid jokes, songs had my mind all askew
You were something I could never construe
I thought you were just there for the summer, totally unaware you were gonna be there for all four seasons
Such a tease though, such that could be charged with treason!
I should have stopped liking you after summer
If I kept on liking you... I couldn’t have got any dumber
I should have stopped talking about you
I should have moved on after your ego raised and became a heartbreaker
Turns out though that you were in my juvenile love-bird boy-crazy stage... quite a shaker!
Every conversation with the crew led to you and thoughts of déjà vu
I should have just deleted you off my life
Now every thought of you slices a piece of my heart away with a surgical knife
I shoulda coulda and woulda!
But instead I sit here... drowned in my regret
Thinking about what coulda been, what shoulda been, what would’ve been...
If only I had told you on that cool summer day!
