SCARED

Time stood still, as we overlooked the scene on top of the hill-
A group of teenagers clumsily staggered down the pathway,
Dressed in clothing as dark as the night sky
They couldn’t walk properly, their words were slurred and had small black pistols in their hands
We kept our eyes peeled as the group of teens approached a group of men playing soccer on the field
We heard some raised voices, arguing, swearing, and then suddenly
POW!
Someone had pulled the trigger,
the yelling got even louder,
and the man’s scream echoed through the park

We were scared as a pack of rabbits,
Shivers ran down our back as we started to stress
Is everyone alright? What about our dads?
Our hands were held tightly together as we hid behind the trees
Praying that all was okay.

Hell seemed to freeze over,
As we waited for what seemed like forever
Finally we heard the familiar tune of the ambulance
It drove down the hill, going to the aid of the injured man
Then came the police car-
policemen flooded out of the car and handcuffed the guilty
While others stayed back, questioning the witnesses

Only when everyone started to leave,
Saying their goodbyes, trying to be brave
did we come out of our hiding spots
Clearly in a rot and bad state
We ran out to our dads, tears in our eyes and wanting nothing to go home
Hoping that nothing like this ever happens again.
