Rainy Days/ A Child's View
Rainy days I used to love from way back when a child
now they're viewed as nothing more than sinister and vile!
A childs view compared to now is as wide as a great chasm
gone by are days, of endless play, bring on the muscle spasm.
The sun would fade, and on the face of children far and wide
a smile would show, they're in the know, "through mud puddles we'll slide!".
The clouds rolled in, the sky grew dark, the rain starts to fall down
we weren't sad, not in the least, nature gave us new playgrounds!
Off we'd go without a care just want to collect dirt
on faces, sneakers, pants and socks on hats and every shirt!
Caked on mud, our honor badge, the dirtier the better
until the clothes got too heavy from hours getting wetter.
Time to go, how did we know, the voice of our moms call
we'd all glance up and thank the sky for summertime's quick squall.
One by one, we'd separate, and go to our own house
shrinking back from Mom's mad glare feeling timid as a mouse.
"WHAT THE..." usually starts the fussing I would always get
this was just a consequence, so I would never fret.
A bar of soap, "STRIP OFF THOSE CLOTHES", and go around the back
"but mom the neighbors might see me!?!"..."JUST DO IT NO MORE FLAK!"
Laundry starts and mom is mad but she don't understand
having fun, not creating work, was the only thing I planned.
But I'm a kid, I don't plan ahead, now ideas escape my head
on how to get my dear old mom to stop seeing all this red!
I'm watching her and she mumbles and then she gives a shrug
At that moment, a great idea, I'll just give her a hug
I slip right up and wrap her tight in my best loving embrace
hold on tight, I won't let go, until a smiles on her face!
