The Trail
This trail leads to the same place as always
You’ve been there many times
Same scenery sits and waits for you
But you still walk to see what you can find
Wind whistles through the leaves
Humming that familiar tune from the past
As memories play through your head
From your first trip to your last
Animals don’t even flinch as you pass
As if they know you by your name
They seem to know what you’re doing
They never show any signs of shame
Through the withered gates
It leads you to the shore
Sit on the bank and stare out
Just like every time before
It’s just you and your surroundings
Not one single person or a care
Surrounded by a sense of serenity
Breathing deep into the fresh air
Confess your darkest secrets
No story is too dull
Out here everyone listens
The clouds won’t tell a soul
When you’re done, you part your ways
Thinking of everything you’ve learned
Walking down the path you know
They’ll be waiting until you’ve returned
