Cantwell Alaska
In pristine mantle of dazzling white
Sporting stains of late fall leftovers
Blueberry purple catches the eye
Streaks of berry flavored snow
Violate winter’s lovely robe
Yet add to this natural palette
Foxtail spruce point skyward
Green-black spires stark
Against a low rise of hills
To the east, Sol appears
A momentary interlude
Where arctic darkness reigns
The temperature, at -35F
Tickles nostril follicles
Breath freezes quickly on eyelashes
Nature’s place of worship
Lovely, no matter the cold
No clutter, no noise

that kind of cold really is amazing at times, I've thought of it as almost cleansing then I have to go inside and warm up, a bit of brain freeze. You illustrated the setting really well in this writing. raskin
