The Prize

Covet not thy beauty, lovely one
For as the rainbow it must fade
And every joyous song was sung
Shall fall to ears which cannot hear

Love life, yea, and court not death
Still, to this single creed be true
Of all things in the universe
Not one be greatest; not one least

Observe all beauty while ye may
Which lieth everywhere about
Remember kindness in thy deeds
To help the weak and needy soul

Do good unto each that thou meet
Forsaking envy; turning from greed
A song of angels be thy challenge
To sing along in heaven’s harmony

And when thy epilogue be penned
In book of life, oh loyal servant
Knowest thou, thy just reward awaits
Then go and claim thy prize with dignity

When all is said and done and we meet with our maker what really will matter is no so much how much we loved but how many have loved us in return. I am sure what will be penned for you will have words of praise and that "William LameBull was a good man."

Ron

a lovely study in doing unto others, William...

I love the delicacy of your words. (Your first stanza is entrancing.) They seem so perfect - fitting your theme and creating a gentle atmosphere for your thoughts.
