The Daily Masquerade

I see the sun
In your eyes,
As it changes,
Rising and setting within the pupil of disguise.

I see the night
In your soul,
As it nibbles at your emotions,
Darkening and clouding in unclear expressions.

You strut a familiar style in the Daily Masquerade.

I see the joy
On your lips
That holds no real happiness,
Hiding dispair with a mask of false pleasantries.

I see the trouble
In your glance
That is repetitive and averting,
Betraying that smile you are so very pained to hold.
This wardrobe is so nostalgic in the Daily Masquerade.

I know what you want me to know not,
But yet do,
For without one to understand that deepest parts of ourselves,
Life would be like swimming up the Mississippi,
Climbing Mt. Everest without any limbs,
Re-writing a work of Shakespeare.

So, for you, I see
The pretences you parade as daily fashion
For times when disguises are not questioned
Because every person wears a mask
In the Daily Masquerade.

Thanks, Beaches =]

Thanks for the comment, beaches. I appreciate your thoughts and the fact that you're my first, and currently my only, comment =]. I really thought this was true, and I have no doubt that you understand as well as I do. It seems we have the cursed or blessed eyes to see through what is painted as reality.

People

it is amazing how fake the world really is ... everyone seems to have a mask... even i do sometimes... i wish it were easier to know what people think... but sadly everything seems to be fake

A Masquarde Of Lies Perhaps?

That parade daily before our eyes,
And perhaps hides the fact
That our lies are, in fact,
Facts that are merely unspoken.
Well done, Winter Rose! Yet another excellent poem. Full of truth. Keep them coming, lady. I'm proud of you! TJ
