Reefer Haven
Day comes damp and dingy
Seeping through the walls
Boiler’s soiled seepage
Paints a peeling floor.
Dirty laundry, dirty laundry
Smells like soured rain.
Spiders in the corners
‘Till we smoke them all away.
Boxes full of papers,
Signed and stamped and tied,
Tight in aging bundles are
Saved- but who knows why?
Dirty laundry, dirty laundry
Smells like soured rain.
Spiders in the corners
‘Till we smoke them all away.
White washer and her dryer
Stand in awe and pain
Shellacked across with liquid soap
Balled lint and rusting stain.
Dirty laundry, dirty laundry
Smells like soured rain.
Spiders in the corners
‘Till we smoke them all away.
Night comes down more chilling
And crawls across our feet.
We pick up folded bundles
Skip up stairs to seek relief.
Dirty laundry, dirty laundry
Smells like soured rain.
Spiders in the corners
‘Till we smoke them all away.
