Taken for Granted

This report so hard to take,
As my body sits in fear
The words can’t even make
The echoes I sadly hear

I never dreamed things would end this way
I expected so many days
And now I’m faced with graying rays
On a dying, ageless face

We never live until
We’re given our last pill
And so our mind will kill
Our breath and all it’s thrill

The ones I’ll leave behind
Their cries I’ll always hear
They burn into my mind
My hope broken into fear

I never expected to fade this fast
I would bet I’d never pass
And now I see the dying grass
As I raise my tattered mast

We never live until
Our lives are threatened still
The fear will slowly kill
Our breath and all it’s thrill

The sun I thought I’d see
It’s warmth so easily
Mistaken to last a while
It’s memory a faded smile

Excellent Piece Of Work !

This is one of the most touching works relating to an existential question that I have come across thus far in this forum. The imagery portrayed, the selection of words and the ambivalence unraveling from the raw emotions depicted here leave the reader with no choice but to join with the writer in a journey filled with truth, wisdom, mortality, and an emotional pulse about life, even if for a short time. The emotions are conveyed so simply yet very effectively, every stanza creating a separate feeling and, in the end, everything binds together harmoniously.

This poem is an appropriate wake-up call we all need from time to time. After all, we are all humans and as we run our busy lives, we oftentimes forget to pause, breathe, look around and feel appreciative of all the gifts life offers us on a daily basis. We end up not only taking life itself for granted but also the people around us. The idea here is poignant, one never truly lives unless there is true enlightenment, oftentimes brought into focus through tragic events. The technique employed in this poem works well and the rhyming fits it just right.

I enjoyed your work and I hope I will see more of it in the future. Keep writing and sharing.

I hope all is well,

CB

Thank You,

Thank you CB for your kind words. As you might have guessed this a personal reflection as much as a universal truth. Unfortunately, we as beings, don't live until it's too, too late. Thanks again!
