Curtains Close
When the lights fade
And when the curtains close
Will I still be able
Just to hear your voice
Or will it all be forgotten
Die down with the claps
Of people who have no idea
What the hell just happened
/
They liked it while it lasted
And now that it’s over
They wont remember who acted
Or who was not pretending
/
When the curtains close
Drenched in our blood
When we cannot see
What’s behind that cloth
Will you come to me
Aid me in quest
And help me pull the string
To reveal the set
Tell them it’s make believe
Open their eyes wide
Show them what’s right
Tell apart what’s wrong
Do you think they’ll believe
Do you think I’m right
Or Am I just another
One without insight
/
And so the curtains close
Shutting away our lives
Trying to please us all
By telling we’re doing right
I want to believe
That I cannot die
But denying death
And I denied life
So I will bare
The pain that it will cause
Because I know you’re right
You always were correct
But maybe just this time
You’ll inject morphine
And I will fade away
Into the darkest light
/
When the curtains close
Drenched in our blood
When we cannot see
What’s behind that cloth
Will you come to me
Aid me in quest
And help me pull the string
To reveal the set
Tell them it’s make believe
Open their eyes wide
Show them what’s right
Tell apart from wrong
Do you think they’ll believe
Do you think I’m right
Or Am I just another
One without insight
/
Alone I stand watching
You struggle to walk
Down the aisle of chairs
Drenched in audience faith
Coated in gold
It’s all a fake
Nothing will last forever
Tell them I miss their laugh
Their smile when I mess up
Life is like a play
We all learn our roles
And wait for curtains close
You smile and wave
And make out the door
While the velvet sinks
Back down to the floor
Casting a shadow
And so I shut my eyes
I watch them take my blood
And write my name on the wall
So I walk away
Taking backstage pass
Off to something else
Something that will last

WOW!
Hi UF,
This was a great piece of writing, truly powerful and thought provoking. It actually reminds me of T.S Eliots work, one of my favourite poets.
I will need to read this over a few times, there is alot being said within this piece.
It also provoked in me ,quite a sadness. There was something quite meloncoly about it.
