Lee's Ferry

The rivers bear the mark of human hand,
such as the ferry, now a sign of when
the Saints laid claim upon their promised land.

The Church had banished John Lee to the sand
between the canyons -- scapegoat of a sin.
The rivers bear the mark of human hand.

In the meadow, wholesale slaughter, planned
by him and other upright Mormon men:
the Saints laid claim upon their promised land.

After the blood had dried, the Church began
to plan Lee's exiled service to their end.
The rivers bear the mark of human hand.

The waters of the west were dug and dammed,
while Lee, retired killer, acted ferryman.
The Saints laid claim upon their promised land.

Now the ferry's gone. There's just a band
of ruins and river expeditions, putting in:
the river bears the mark of human hand.
O saints, lay claim upon your promised land.
